Lloyd Bradley – Sounds Like London

Lloyd Bradley takes us on a journey though almost a hundred years of black music in London. In this richly detailed but always entertaining account we find out much about both the immigrant experience and the many styles of music that have been produced.

Calypso, steel pan music, jazz and grime are among the styles featured and I particularly enjoyed the section detailing the soundsystems fronted by Jazzie B, Norman Jay and others. It’s a wonderfully compelling read and will certainly have me seeking out many of the featured acts.
